aerators are nothing more than a pump that delivers air-air and say it may be introducing other gases than oxygen, which is what we want, in the aquarium. The aerator has its uses, we will not deny, but also has its disadvantages, for example in a planted aquarium.
In the latter case, the problems are mainly to pay CO 2 , because this way the precious gas would not be diluted in water. That is why also not recommended commonly called cascade filters. By paying with this gas (with the aquarium light on) are helping the plants to perform photosynthesis, and this what we get is to expel oxygen to water, so far known do not need the bomb. But when night comes, and therefore, time to turn off the screen, the plant behavior is reversed, do not do photosynthesis and begin to absorb oxygen gas by competing all animals in the aquarium, so that at night it is advisable to install a small aerator, or place the filter outflow so do some surface agitation.
